Museum

Rybinsk State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum Preserve is situated in the one of the biggest cities of Yaroslavl province. Principal layouts are placed in the former building of the Cereal Exchange, constructed in 1912 by Moscow architect A.V.Ivanov in «Russian style», and in the part of the building of Cereal/Flour Arcade which was built in the end of the 18th century.

Rybinsk museum was founded in 1910 when natural science layout of moderate price was opened. Art part of the museum collection has been formed later. The collections from the nobility’s country estates of the counts Musin-Pushkins, noblemen Mikhalkovs and Likhachyevs, from the state museum reserves departments and other storehouses of the cultural values of Moscow and Petrograd became its core.

Nowadays museum collection has over 110 thousand different exhibits. There are a lot of items of Russian fine and applied arts. In addition to the works of the well-known craftsmen of the 18-20th centuries (I.Vishnyakov, F.Matvyeyev, I.Ayvazovsky, I.Shishkin, V. Makosky, K.Makovsky, Z.Syeryebryakova, N.Ryerikh) museum has got pictures of province artists. Many of them are connected with life in the province. There are a lot of works of modern craftsmen and items of national art. Icon-painting collection includes amazing samples of the «late icon».

Peculiarity of art collection of Rybinsk museum is a large collection of foreign fine and applied arts. At the moment there are over 3 thousand works in the museum. The most value, varied and large part of the collection is West-European engraving of the 16-19th centuries. Here you can see craftsmen’s works of almost each head schools of West Europe. In the section of West-European painting there are works of the Netherlands, French, German and Italian schools. Among the items of fine and applied arts we can pick out the ceramics and porcelain from Europe and Eastern countries.

Besides art collections there are a lot of archaeological, paleontological, historical and ethnographical monuments.

 

Branches:

  • Memorial A.A.Ukhtomsky House, opened in 1990.

It is situated in the house where duke A.A.Ukhtomsky passed his childhood. He was prominent academician. Documentary story of his biography and his relatives is supplemented by comfortable memorial sitting-room and suite.

  • The unique museum of Mologa province, opened in 1995, is situated in the chapel of the former Mologa Afanasy convent. This museum was built in memory of Mologa city, which disappeared in Rybinsk reservoir.

 There are scientific library and small souvenir shop in the museum. Here you can buy museum and city’s editions and different souvenirs.
